How to Find the Right Headlight Lens for Your Car: Chassis Codes Explained

A headlight lens is molded for one specific housing; two models that look alike may use different lenses, and a facelift often changes the shape. Here is how to be sure before ordering.

1. Brand, model and chassis code

For German cars the product title gives the chassis code: Mercedes W213 (E-Class 2016–2023), W205 (C-Class 2015–2021), W222 (S-Class 2014–2020); BMW G30 (5 Series 2017–2023), F10 (2011–2016), E70/F15/G05 (X5). You find the code on the registration card or by searching the production year.

2. Model year

A lens covers a range of years (for example 2012–2014). A 2015 car of the same model may be a facelift with a different lens. The model year is on the registration card or in the 10th character of the VIN.

3. Side

Left = driver side, right = passenger side (sitting in the car). Part numbers end with L or R.

4. Version and specification

Some models have a low version (halogen) and a high version (LED/xenon) with different lenses, and some US-spec cars differ from GCC or EU spec. The difference is shown in brackets in the product title.

5. The VIN

17 characters on the registration card, on a plate at the base of the windscreen and on the driver’s door. Send it on WhatsApp with a photo of the headlight and we confirm the correct part number.

Search by model, year or part number.
