Importing Headlight Lens Covers into Egypt and North Africa: a Trader’s Guide
This guide is for traders and importers ordering lens covers and LED bulbs in quantity from the Cairo stock or directly from the factory.
HS code
Headlight lenses and vehicle bulbs are usually classified under 8512.20 (lighting or visual signalling equipment for motor vehicles). Confirm the classification with your customs broker.
Egypt
- Commercial import requires registration in the importers’ register.
- Since October 2021 an ACID number must be obtained in advance on the Nafeza platform and the documents sent electronically before shipment (ACI system).
- Customs duty applies per the current tariff, plus 14% VAT.
- Parts shipped from the New Cairo stock are already cleared and delivered with a tax invoice.
Libya and Sudan
Road freight from Cairo through Salloum (Libya) or Argeen (Sudan), or sea to Misrata and Port Sudan. The importer clears locally; we provide the invoice, packing list and certificate of origin.
Algeria
The importer needs a trade register with import activity and a bank domiciliation for the transaction. We issue the pro-forma invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and bill of lading; shipping by sea from Alexandria or Jebel Ali to Algiers or Oran.
Tunisia and Morocco
Standard clearance through a local broker under HS 8512.20. Morocco also has a dedicated site, lalogo.ma.
Documents we provide
- Pro-forma invoice, then the final commercial invoice
- Packing list with weights, dimensions and HS codes
- Certificate of origin (China or UAE depending on the shipment source)
- Sea or air waybill
